«Day of Africa» in Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy
Annually thousands of international students from all countries in the world arrive in Russia. For years of studies they find a lot of new friends and the professors become a real family for them. Integrating into Russian culture, students also maintain their own traditions which join all of them.
Russian students and teachers are interested in peculiarities of culture and traditions of different African countries and they are glad to get acquainted with them, African students by turn are pleased to demonstrate their national culture.
Thereupon it already became a tradition to organize holidays and events at Russian state universities, dedicated to different countries. On the 27th of April, 2010, at Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy with the support and sponsorship of organization RACUS there was organized a festive concert «Day of Africa», in which students of the Academy from many countries participated. In the hall, where the event was arranged, there were not any empty places: a lot of foreign students from other universities, and also Russian students came to support the participants.
The rector of the Academy V.V. Levanovich and the director general of organization RACUS A.H. Nutsalov greeted the guests of the holiday. The employees of organization RACUS, who annually visit a lot of African countries, also didn't miss a chance to make closer acquaintance with traditions of the students.
The program of the concert included numerous national dances, songs, presentation of countries, sketches about life of African students in Russia. Especial interest arose to demonstration of national clothes of Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Malawi, Swaziland, Mauritius, Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo, Benin, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, South African Republic. Students of the 6th year of the Academy, who organized this holiday, received presents from RACUS organization. And there was also made a quiz for all the guests with different questions about Africa, with prize presentation for all those who gave correct answers.
At the end of the concert the students thanked for support and kind attitude the staff of the international department and organization RACUS.
All the participants and guests emphasized good organization of the festive event and said many words of encouragement, wishing all the graduates of the Academy success in the realization of received knowledge on practice.
