Novgorod the Great is one of the oldest Russian towns, which has retained its antique charm. Since the XIth century, Novgorod the Great has been a center of literacy and education. It was here that the earliest pieces of Old Russian literature first emerged to encourage people's love for books and knowledge.
Novgorod the Great is situated 150 km from Saint-Petersburg and is populated by approximately 350 000 people.The history of higher education in Novgorod the Great dates back to the first part of XVIII century. Since that time the name of the University had been changed several times and today it is called Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University. According to estimation of the European University Association, Novgorod State University is rated among the top ten of the 100 best classical universities of Russia. Being the winner of many international awards, the University is the leading regional center of education, science and culture.
The University incorporates 8 institutes where 44 Bachelor’s, 13 Master’s and 4 Specialist programs are taught (in the areas of Medicine, Engineering and Technology, Economics and Humanities and postgraduate studies). Highly qualified teaching staff comprises Doctors of Science, and world recognized academicians. There is a special Center for Information Technologies, Marketing, an experimental plant and over 70 laboratories operating at the University, where students and scientists do their research in various priority areas of science and technique.
The University is technically equipped in accordance with the highest standards of the up-to-date technologies: there are 18 computer classrooms, a Web-laboratory, multimedia studio, conference halls, and presentation equipment.
The department of Computer Technologies is one of the leading in the University. The high quality of education is ensured by the up-to-date syllabuses, which closely follow the current trends and perspectives of the world market, and the latest developments in the Information Technologies industry. Many of the courses are being designed within the framework of participation in the international educational programs organized by the global leaders in the IT industry, such as IBM (IBM Scholar Program), Cisco Systems (Cisco Networking Academy), Sun Microsystems (Sun Java Academy), Microsoft (Microsoft Academic and School Agreement).

Upon successful completion of the University, the graduate gets a higher education degree of Russian national standard indicating Degree/quali-fication and speciality. The graduate also gets an additional document “European Appendix”, which allows its holder to get its equivalence in any of 45 European and other countries signed up to the “Bologna Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications Concerning Higher Education” and to further education or apply for a prestigious job in these countries. Candidates for studies in Russian State Universities, who don't speak Russian language, are firstly admitted to the Foundation Course (duration is 1 academic year) to study Russian language and improve the level of knowledge in major special subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, etc.) up to the required for further study at the University on the chosen specialty. Tuition, accommodation in a student hostel and insurance fees, stipulated in US dollars, are an approximate equivalent of tuition fees in Russian rubles. The actual tuition and accommodation fees may be slightly corrected due to the US dollars /Russian ruble exchange rate correlation on the International Monetary Exchange as on the date of the tuition, accommodation and insurance fees invoice issuance.
The price for legalization of the documents which is required to obtain the 'Certificate of Equivalence', obligatory for all international students, in Rosobrnadzor (Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation) is 6500 Russian rubles (which is equivalent to approximately 100 USD). All the activities concerning the preparation of the documentation package required to obtain the equivalence certificate and the equivalence procedure itself are undertaken by the student himself/herself at their own expense.
The above-mentioned fees for tuition, accommodation in student hostel, life and health insurance are valid only for 2017/2018 academic year.
During the initial registration procedure the candidate pays a enrollment fee of 300 USD which covers the charges for the issuance of the invitation letter for studies, sending its original and other documents to the candidate's country of the permanent residence by express mail (DHL), meeting the candidate at the international airport in Moscow/Saint-Petersburg, transfer to the airport in Saint-Petersburg in minibus to Novgorod the Great (3 hours), meeting at the train station of Novgorod the Great and accompanying to the University, drawing up documents for admission to University for studies, registration fee, etc. The above mentioned amount doesn't include the cost of the airfare Moscow-Saint-Petersburg or train ticket Moscow-Novgorod the Great.
