NIZHNY NOVGOROD STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY
Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University is situated in the center of the ancient and the beautiful city of Nizhny Novgorod; the city is often referred to as the third “capital” of Russia, after Moscow and St. Petersburg. Founded in 1221, Nizhny Novgorod has retained many of its unique historic, architectural and cultural monuments. The city is on the UNESCO list of the top 100 cities worldwide that are most valuable in terms of culture. Nizhny Novgorod is the third largest city of Russia and is populated by approximately two million people. The city is located in the heart of Russia, in the picturesque place upon the conflux of the Volga and the Oka rivers; it is not only an economic, transport, scientific, cultural and industrial, but also big educational center of Russia; all these make the city especially attractive not only for tourists, but also for students including those who come from other countries.
Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University was founded in 1911; the contribution of its professors and teaching staff in the training of Russian teachers' resources is well known and has got many awards; it shows the real status of the higher education establishment by combining education with big scientific work and character building. Today the University is considered as one of the top pedagogical higher education establishments in Russia. One of the first education and scientific pedagogical complexes in Russia was created here in 1994; it incorporates a gymnasium, a lyceum, 4 pedagogical colleges and the University. It's important to note that a unique system of character building was created in the University, it includes the following programs: “Healthy Life Style”, “Science”, “Charity”, “Students' Creative Work”; and projects “Theatre – Education”, “Museum – Education”, “Music – Education”, “Book – Education”.
As a result the University's students are winners of different competitions at all levels. The Regional Center for Information Technologies is one the units of the University; the University undertakes the role of a leader in the development of program and methodical software for the young specialists' multilevel training. Students study computer graphics and the use of the Internet and multimedia programs.
The University comprises 5 study buildings, 2 student hostels, student cafe, sport and health complex, covered track and field hall, agrobiological station, summer camp in the countryside situated at the shore of Gorky water storage, museum of the University's history, zoological museum, and geology museum. Many events are organized at the University; they are feasts, festivals, Faculty's Day, graduation days of final year students, summer holidays for students and University's staff, the University also takes part in regional and city sport competitions. The University is well equipped with computers united in one general local network for the access to the world information net – Internet. An electronic library has been created for the students' use.
Today over 500 teachers work at Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University and among them there are over 300 Candidates of Science, associated professors, over 60 Doctors of Science, professors. By the contrast to the considerable age of the University, its staff is young and full of energy; it successfully realizes the development of program of the regional system of education. During its history, the University has trained over 50 000 teachers, tutors, psychologists-specialists, all of them carry the enlightenment and educational work in the system of Russian national education. The University's graduates work at the executive positions in the agencies of national formation, schools, mass media, state and municipal structures of the city and the region.
The training of teachers meets the requirements of the modern school; it's held at 8 faculties, adjustment training center for specialists with higher and specialized post-secondary education, and foreign students' department. A number of centers are created on the basis of 50 departments; they are social-humanities center, orthodox and spirit culture center, psychological center, center of educational conflict management, scientific laboratories of ecological education center, center of linguodidactics and culture of Russian speech, center of kinesiology, etc. The University has created a stable system of social partnership with educational establishments where students undertake their practice as teachers. From the very first years of education, students are associated with schools and different other educational establishments. The University gives special attention to innovative problems of educational science when the students are trained for their teaching practice. Students use almost all researches obtained during the practice in their graduation qualification thesis.
Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University respects traditions keeping them in mind as a solution to the difficult modern problems. “Internal unity” of two resources – teaching and scientific – in the realization of its mission – formation of Teacher – characterizes the University. The scientific activity coupled with the educational and training process form the integral parts which are the reality of today.
Upon successful completion of the University, the graduate gets a higher education degree of Russian national standard indicating Degree/ qualification and speciality. The graduate also gets an additional document “European Appendix”, which allows its holder to get its equivalence in any of 45 European and other countries signed up to the “Bologna Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications Concerning Higher Education” and to further education or apply for a prestigious job in these countries.

Candidates for studies in Russian State Universities, who don't speak Russian language, are firstly admitted to the Foundation Course (duration is 1 academic year) to study Russian language and improve the level of knowledge in major special subjects up to the required for further study at the University on the chosen specialty. Tuition, accommodation in a student hostel and insurance fees, stipulated in US dollars, are an approximate equivalent of tuition fees in Russian rubles. The actual tuition and accommodation fees may be slightly corrected due to the US dollars /Russian ruble exchange rate correlation on the International Monetary Exchange as on the date of the tuition, accommodation and insurance fees invoice issuance.
The price for legalization of the documents which is required to obtain the 'Certificate of Equivalence', obligatory for all international students, in Rosobrnadzor (Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation) is 6500 Russian rubles (which is equivalent to approximately 100 USD). All the activities concerning the preparation of the documentation package required to obtain the equivalence certificate and the equivalence procedure itself are undertaken by the student himself/herself at their own expense.
The above-mentioned fees for tuition, accommodation in student hostel, life and health insurance are valid only for 2016/2017 academic year.
During the initial registration procedure the candidate pays a enrollment fee of 300 USD which covers the charges for the issuance of the invitation letter for studies, sending its original and other documents to the candidate's country of the permanent residence by express mail (DHL), meeting the candidate at the international airport in Moscow, transfer to the train station in Moscow, meeting at the train station of Nizhny Novgorod and accompanying to the University, drawing up documents for admission to University for studies, registration fee, etc. The above mentioned amount doesn't include the cost of the train ticket Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod. Average food expenses are 300 USD per month. When first entering Russia, the candidate should have about 500 USD to buy some basic necessities and personal things (clothes, dishes, electrical equipment, etc.).
